F. Thomas Pogwizd, 71, of Hamden died January 13, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven, January 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Cecile Bruneau Pogwizd. Tom had proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. After graduating from Quinnipiac University with a degree in Accounting, he was the Comptroller and CPA for Beazley Company Realtors for many years. In his semi-retirement years he continued to practice as a private CPA. He was an integral part of Blackhorse Equestrian Center in Bethany. Cherished father of Melissa (Brad Bertele) Pogwizd and Thomas Pogwizd. Brother of Jean (Joseph Riccio) Pogwizd. Nephew of John (Dorothy) Pogwizd. Also survived by several cousins especially Marie and Fred Velardi to whom he had a special bond, his beloved companion Carol Skelcher and her children Sarah Skelcher (Todd Sobieraj) and Brian (Ashley) Skelcher, her grandchildren Miles, Chase, and Sawyer. He is also survived by his former wife Norma M. Pogwizd. Tommy leaves behind his cherished horse Resounding Ovation. Tommy was a kind, gentle, and patient man, always willing to lend a hand. He could often be found helping with the horses at the barn, riding his motorcycle as often and as far as possible, or playing on his computer. He and Carol, his partner of many years, traveled around the country and the world on many wonderful vacations. He found joy in playing games with the grandchildren, driving his collection of cars, and cooking bacon and eggs on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Tommy never said no to anyone who needed his help. His loss will be felt by many in their day-to-day lives and he will never be forgotten.
