John Leon Stopka, of Hamden, passed away peacefully July 15, 2020 in The Guilford House. He was the husband of the late Pearl Slater Stopka. Born in New Haven on October 24, 1930, a son of the late John and Anna Grzejka Stopka. He loved fishing and crabbing, playing card and chess games and spending time with family. He was a kind and generous soul who always put others needs ahead of his own. John served his country in the Army and was the owner of Eagle Printing in Hamden for many years before retiring. He was the loving father of John Walter Stopka and his wife Lori, step-father to Trudy Hoyt, Brother of Frank (Helen) Stopka, Mary Charczynski, Dorothy (Lucian) Ferrucci and the late Ann Lion, Jane Vickary, Victoria Bocek, Hedwig Krupski, Eugene, Walter and Joseph Stopka. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 in Devine Mercy Parish at St. Rita's Church. Entombment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. A celebration of John's life will be held at a future date. Masks and social distancing are required for all services The Lupinski Funeral Home, Inc. is in care of his arrangements.
