Obituary

Wladyslawa “Gladys” Fekieta, 92, of New Haven, passed away July 26, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital-St. Raphael Campus. She was born on May 15, 1926 in Bemblo in the district of Krakow Poland, to the late Jozef and Anna Gaska Kedziora. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanislaw Fekieta and eight siblings. As a teenager she survived forced labor in Germany during the Nazi occupation of Poland in World War II. After the war she met and married her husband, Stanislaw in the displaced persons camps where they were granted asylum to the United States. They immigrated to Virginia to their work assignments and eventually relocated to New Haven. Wladyslawa was a devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, she and her husband owned a home in the neighborhood on Pearl Street where they raised their children in the Polish traditions. One of her proudest moments was the day she became a U.S. citizen and considered it an honor and privilege to vote in every presidential election. She often said her favorite song was God Bless America. Wladyslawa had worked for many years at SNET before retiring. She is remembered as a kind, giving person by those who knew her, full of energy and vitality. Wladyslawa is survived by her children Genevieve (Andrew) Campion, Joseph Fekieta and Stephanie (Philip) Cucurello. Beloved grandmother of Sara Fedak (fiancé Matthew Gorman), Matthew Cucurello and Emily Cucurello.
Visiting hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30 to 10:30am in the LUPINSKI FUNERAL HOME, INC. 821 State Street, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Stanislaus Church at 11am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 9 Eld Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
